Bibane Dam

I will be paying Bivane Dam a visit on 27-30 Aprill this year. This will be my first trip to Bivane and I must say I cannot wait to test this lake for the first time! It is a "From Dad to Dad" pressie for muah's big 50th.

I would appreciate any information on this dam, where to fish, where to stay away from, hot spots, lures etc. I’m also looking for a topographic map of the dam. When I made the booking the other day they chap working there told me that they recently caught and weighed a 5kg bass there! I think there has been a BETT as well as a CFC finals there before?

The only thing I know about the place is that it is situated about 50km outside Vryheid, what the GPS co-ordinates are and that it has top notch accommodation. We will be staying in a newly build chalet which is overlooking the dam. A full report with pictures will be posted right here on BFSA on my return. :blue-cool:

Never fished Bivane... want to... I know it's on the SABAA calender this year but not on BETT. We don't have the contours on Streetmaps.co.za

Bivane is an amazing piece of water for sure ! I fished it for the first time for 3 days in early January. Water was pretty low @ 67% and warm in the 85 degF range . Clarity from murky to 3 foot vis in mid lake. 55 steps down to the boat dock and the most challenging hairpin slipway you have ever encountered ! The resort is one of the best I have been to.

Will post some pics of the fish i found a pattern for. The best bait of the 3 days was the Rojas Fighting Frog (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.outdoors365.co.za/products-page/soft-baits/rojas-fighting-frog/">www.outdoors365.co.za/products-page/sof ... ting-frog/</a><!-- w -->) pitched on 15lb InvisX Fluorocarbon and a 1/8oz tungsten. The YoDaddy tempted the biggest of the trip with a fish of 2 1/2 kilos. The triple tail and squirrel tail also found their fair share of bites too !

Note : There is no petrol available at the resort so take more than enough for your trip. Also a long extension for charging your batteries if you are staying in the chalets. Cell phone signal is scarce too.

Ninja ive been at Bivane twice. its a very deep and rocky dam. The water clarity varies from day to day depending on the amount of ski boats on the dam. Its a tricky dam to catch bass. Bass as we all know have there moods when they want to bite or not. There are absolutley huge talapias in water.

I have cought from the shore before but you have to climb over massive boulders and its scary how deep that peice of water is.

The dam is pretty low at the moment and there are submerged trees just above the channel that runs down a protected area.

I havent been on it with a bass boat but did have average succes with a canoe but you paddle your arms off to get to where you need to be.

It is an amazing place to fish. But it gets hot and the sun will burn you to bits. Real pongola weather. Hot humid and dry. Then the storms come in early afternoon.

We had succes on 6" white worms and spinnerbaits.

Back then I wasnt as well rigged up as now, and only recently boat a boat that will take me on the bivane. But its worth it.

I havent caught any small bass there. if it bites its 1kg plus. alot of 4- 5 kg bass are caught regularly.

Directions are pretty simple.

From Vryheid you drive towards Pongola/Louwsburg. Half way you will get a small mining town called Corination. one or two kms from there you will find the board that says bivane. Its about a 12km dirt road you have to follow.
