So the past weekend we had our first divisionals. A disaster to say the least. 14 blanks day one (including myself) 22 blanks day two. 10 double blanks. The river really turned ugly on us.

Anyway, everywhere you went there were carps lying in the structure. Sometimes up to 20 in a tree. The general feeling I got from the other anglers, and have myself is that if there was so many carps around the bass wont be. This was true this weekend, because the carps were everywhere and the bass nowhere!!!

So with about two hours to go and still nothing to show for my efforts and nearing my first double blank ever ever, I saw a moerse carp lying in a tree with three or four smaller ones next to it. But big!. I decided Ill try her seeing that there is nothing else going on. I made a perfect pitch right on her nose. She did not move (which they usually do). The line was running over her nose with the lure just below her mouth when I felt the tap. I could have sworn I did not see her mouth move. Picked up the rod and felt it was on.

"It must be her then" I tough to myself. I decided to hit her and have some fun. As I struck, out came my only keeper of the weekend!!!! I was perplexed. That bass must have lied under that carp like a ramora so close was it to him. I tried then to duplicate this elsewhere but to no avail.

I just tough Id share because it is probably one of the weirdest bass Ive ever caught. Has anyone else experienced this?

I gues its a pox, and jip I got lucky in catching that fish, but atleast I got one!

If it was Rob that made that cast he would have caught the carp for sure! :blue-cool:

I have also found that. Inanda has a massive amount of Carp in it and they seem to keep to them selves most of the time. Every now and then the Carp and Barbel school up in huge numbers mouthing the top of the water and I have never caught a bass when they are like that. :blue-sad:
The more I learn about fishing the more I realise
how much more I have to learn about fishing.

And if the Ninja was there he would have thrown his little Jerkbait and caught a bass! :blue-biggrin:

mine was the other way around...

fishing at midmar was tough as it normally is for me...so i put on a rattling spot and managed to get a couple like this...

as we moved along the bank i was getting hooked up in the weed then pulling the lure loose which was getting the fishes attention...

but then i hooked something solid...which moved...but this is all i could see...

to my disappointment ...after 45 minutes of not knowing what was on the end of the line...using 10 lb big game with my cranking stick...thoughts like world record bass going thru my head...and every now and again i would see the tip of the tail come out the water so i wasnt quite sure...but kept at it...until finally it took 2 of us to lift this fish... take a pic...and release it.[Image: 2zr2p28.jpg]

yes, and with a tail like that i think it would put up a decent fight on bass gear too
