Ja BLY, it's been interesting to say the least! Biggest problem is trying to keep the place to myself without interference from those who think a pond next to a road belongs to everyone........nonetheless, we do fish there as the pics show but often we just leave the fish alone so as not to disturb them such as now in the spawn. Tempted - yes, takes some discipline though especially when the kids want to throw a line.

As I recall Leon Goodman holds some line class records for bluegill, and 1,1kg is an awsome bluegill, but the open SA record is a 1,34kg that belongs to Mark Krige.

GK, thanks, that is one big bluegill!

The following underwater pics were taken today in my pond. They reflect Spring plant growth, nests, clouds of daphnia (water fleas), shoaling, oxygenation by plants, fingerlings and other:

We had a weak low pressure come through and this morning I took last night's "trap" captures through to the pond and besides the crabs still feasting in the crab restaurant, not a fish in sight.....nothing, not even the tadpoles or dragonflies are active. This should help as to where the fish will be at our club outing to Wriggleswade this weekend.

Herewith confirmation that men are from mars and woman are from venus! Whilst I was away fishing, my wife decided to visit my special place to see why I fuss over my fish so much........, These are the pictures she sends me so that I can see my place through her eyes. Stunning! It's not just about the fish you see.

I've had to reprimand a few people recently for fishing in my pond and the empty booze bottles and other confirm this!!!! Thus, the kids and I ventured into the water to see if all still ok and it seems life is chugging along nicely regardless. Herewith some pics:

Damn man, when I want to revitalise my thread I notice that everything between Feb 2015 and some few months back has gone walkabout and is lost to the never never land archives!

Oh well, you cant win them all and I will post some feedback once I collate it all.

Man, this drought is taking its toll! Managed to get underwater in between two thunderstorms and only briefly as there were big sparks from upstairs. The bigger the fish, the worse condition they are in. The two ponds are very separated at present and whilst the shallower side is the baitfish breeding side and full of small bass and bluegill, the deeper side is battling somewhat even though the grass is teeming with small fish. Where all the blue and vlei kurper have gone to is a mystery…….! Empty beer bottles around the edges might explain some of it.
I think I’m going to have to pump from the shallow side to top up the main pond, transfer anything that can be food and dispose of the bass that remain. If it doesn’t rain properly by Easter, this is a given.
Nonetheless some recent pics:
