I doubt whether you will be able to purchase smallmouth fingerlings. It's possible that some people keep scrapy smallies caught at Kwaggas etc in a livewell and move them that way. I have never personally seen or heard of this practice of course :blue-biggrin: and would NEVER do it myself seeing as how it's illegal, but it sounds like one way of getting the job done.

It's not illegal if you do it the correct way and get the required permits. We don’t condone illegal activities when it comes to stocking waters... get the permits and I can give you the info you need.... Shot.

From Cape Nature aka "Satan Himself"

Please just note that the approval ONLY refers to
largemouth bass and not smallmouth. Smallmouth bass has a proven negative
impact on aquatic ecosystem and is no longer allowed to be stocked
anywhere in the country.

How is Smallmouth bass going to effect the eco system if it is being stocked in a farm dam that is not near to any other river or body of water?

Cape Nature is just being irrational...

Well, now you have a good excuse to fish kwaggas and clan. Besides, why stock with fingerlings when you can do so with 2kg monsters for free while having fun. M2c

From What I understand, Largemouth are a lot less likely to survive in river systems, so there is less chance of them spreading from one dam to another. Smallmouth however have no problem surviving in rivers, Therefore there is a much bigger risk of them moving from one body of water to another. This is why the permits for smallmouth are impossible to get!

Yes but the point is that the smallmouth will be on a private farm that no one will have access to and the dam is not near a river or any other body of water with indigenous species.

So its not like the smallmouth can grow wings and fly away.
