Smallmouth Waters

Hi all,new to the forum but joined it because I'm in desperate need of some help.
I will be emigrating to the UK next year but before I leave I want to catch a smallmouth,it's been on my bucket list ever since I first saw pictures of them in the American bass magazine's when I was younger. I have attempted to phone the local fishing shops around the areas here in Cape Town and have had no luck,the most I got from them was go to clan William.But I am a bank basher so taking on a bigger dam like that would be a gamble hence why I'm looking for smaller dams or river systems that hold smallies.Can anyone help with suggestions of smaller dams and or river systems in the western cape are where I might have a bit of luck?

Have you tried using the search function on the forum? 

Or you could trundle up to the top of paarl rock and wet a line up there. Please respect the rules of those ponds

I have taken a look using the search function but I was not able to get any solid spot to try. Paarl rock?I'm not familiar with that location,is it a piece of land ?.I attempted the Berg river near paarl one morning and the only thing I got out that was witnessing two homeless people having a domestic dispute under a bridge.

Smallmouth can be found mainly in Kwaggaskloof / Brandvlei dams which becomes one big dam when the water is high enough. Also Theewaterskloof dam has a few but the smallmouth mecca would be Clanwilliam Dam as well as 20km north of that at Bulshoek dam which is downstream of Clanwilliam.

I would suggest you fish the rocky point close the clubhouse at Kwaggaskloof if you don't have access to a boat or kick boat or canoe of some sort.

At Clanwilliam there is lots of rocky points close to the public area that should also deliver with some persistence.

Paarl rock meaning the big mountain reserve in Paarl, the one next to the N1 outbound as you go to Paarl. Try looking up the word Nantes dam.
(PS: Paarl is actually named after this "rock" which resembles a pearl when the big chunk of rock is wet from dew and the sun hits it in the morning - paarl is dutch for pearl...)

Look on google maps for Paarl Mountain Local Nature Reserve - you should be able to figure it out from there
