andydejager Wrote:Hi guys.

So its come to my attention in recent post and wall post that the ' older members' have mentioned and noticed that the interest and topics on BFSA are not as active as it use to be.

So this is where I'm asking for help and suggestions too improve this and make the site active and exciting for all members again.

All suggestions and help will be much appreciated.

Kind regards

BFSA Team

Hi, Andy
I'm not convinced that the cancelation of the MT next year will help increase the activity on the site either.

I've been talking to some of the guys and very few MT guys seem interested in the FLW & same goes with the guys that fish the Regionals as they've already committed to the season.

I myself will have to choose between the FLW & Regionals & to be honest I'm leaning towards the Regionals for various reasons.

Would it not be better to start the FLW next season to allow the guys the opportunity to choose before hand?

Have you had many conformations/entries for the FLW?

I think it is great that this topic is up for discussion..

My opinion is as follows:

1. People come to the site to learn and read up on other fishermans opinions. Yes opinions, be it right or wrong. In my opinion it felt like there was a clamp down not too long ago on these opinions. People voiced there opinions on certain makes of tubes, venues, tactics right or wrong and was torn to shreds. So we are then creating a culture that your opinion (again right or wrong) is not worthy. How does one then learn if not from your mistakes. Being politically correct 100% of the time makes a site boring and one then has very little chance to learn. When the popcorn comes out, thats when people start reading...
2. I also think that the big problem is content. If there are little to no posts, why will somebody visit the site. Therefore INCENTIVIZE the change you want to see. How do we do this? Well there are several ways:

A. The product sponsors of this site could give 'normal' everyday fisherman young and old, products to try out on their local waters - with the requirement that they then need to write a report back. If its something as expensive as a rod, then ask the rod back after the review. But reading a review of a non-profesional 'normal' fisherman to me is awesome. Look at the many amateur youtube channels of normal people catching fish and making mistakes. That what people want to see and read.

B. Make a list/schedule of people that will fish known and accessible fishing spots that EVERYBODY can access and let them write a report back of the real events no matter how good/bad. And without the "I only fished with Rod XXX and Product XXX". What I mean here is that Person X will do a report back of Theewaters in January, Person Y will do a report back of Kwaggas in Feb, Junior Z will do a report back of the Croc Farm etc etc etc. The nice and exotic and secret spots are awesome, but they are not open for everybody. If people do a report on Theewaters, then people will go an fish theewaters

C. Let a supplier tell us about a new product etc etc etc. Let them tell us about the features etc.

D. Get catch of the month as well as report back of the month up and running with a small prize. Perhaps a BFSA Baseball cap as well as a packet of plastics. I'm sure the suppliers will sponsor this. I won this a year or two ago and because of this I now always include Xcite baits as part of my arsenal - before this I have never fished with their plastics.

Anycase, thats just my 2 cents.

Valrath Wrote:Go back to the paid model service and the forum will be great again.

Guys will do report backs and stop arguing about random nonsense.

Ask anyone. The forum went downhill after it became free.

Nope, I disagree. The forum was free from the word go. For a short while, when it became a paid forum, the wheels fell off completely. It was quickly resorted to a free forum and all was well again.

Andy there is nothing wrong with the platform, no need to change anything. What makes the forum interesting or not depends on the members and their contributions. Reports Backs with full details and lots of pictures is the number one contributing factor that will once again make this forum active and interesting.

As for COTM, it most definitely help to generate interest and activity on the forum BUT it must be in the form of stand alone full report backs and NO prizes. The moment there is a reward is when the shit and bickering will start.

Hope this helps.

BassLightyear Wrote:I think a paid website would largely cut out your junior contributions.

Also, another thing I would like is to be able to view other people's profiles again. I personally learned a lot by reading old posts of some of the best anglers on this site and it really helps to find old posts easier.

Eg. let's say Bob fishes the Breede River a lot. And I'm going to the Breede for the weekend, reading a few of his old reports would help me a lot to get an idea of what I'm in for. Just an idea, don't really know why you can't view other people profiles anymore

Hi BassLightyear,
My intention is definitely not too loose members. That is why i suggested a 'VIP section' for paying members and rest of the site will continue as normal if that makes sense.

Thanks Rip

I am fairly new to the forum. (1 Year) And I noticed a few things in my time here.

Please look at the posts where a "newbie" asks a question, and that post just gets ignored. You will find plenty. Lucky for me a few of the members here got in contact personally and I got to meet a great bunch of people at the KBT.

My suggestion would be to maybe organize a social fish or just beer on a Friday or something. It will make a big difference.

Some of us still fish for the fun of it, and not out to win all the prizes.

Hey Sparky. I don't think the posts get ignored, it very often is questions about a specific venue and such questions can only be answered by those in the know if they are around. Look at the views received rather relative to the replies.

Morning guys.......yes you too Uncle Bergie!
If BLY was having a problem accessing posts on user profiles then surely some others must be experiencing similar problems.
Guys, let us know what issues you are experiencing so that we may try and resolve them.

To make a VIP section for payment and one section that will run as now does not make any sense as this is creating a division between anglers as there is now with all the diffrent MT and SABASS and all others.
This forum should be for all from novice to Pro all Pro's where novices at one stage.
There should be no cost involed, there are a lot of forums which I belong to not one of them charge a fee.
This is my 2c
