Custom Jigs Colours

Hi All

wanted to get some custom colour jigs made to match more the SA conditions. Any good colours or fish to replicate over? As I know all the US colours don't really match our dams here for fish.

Any thoughts? I am thinking small kurper colours.

thanks, was more looking for what fish/bait should I get jigs to match to?

kind of what colours work best if I could customize vs US standard colours

I would think a bluegill would be first choice. From there I would like at the various kurper options depending on what the resident baitfish woudl be.

Here at Kwaggaskloof, Brandvlei and Theewaterskloof a silvery white would be good as Gillcristella is a prominent baitfish.

Dirty Jigs have 45 different swim jig colours! I would be surprised if you can't find a colour that closely resembles your resident bait fish. As an example, the Ayu colour is, in my opinion, a good approximation of some of the smaller kurper varieties.

This is actually not correct. 
First of all most jigs are rigged and fished to mimic crabs and frogs rather than fish. In this application a few colours stand out. In particular Peanut butter and Jelly, Black/blue and various Green pumpkin variants. In clearer waters any of the subtler colours like those with either a pumpkinseed or watermelonseed base will produce well.
Basically look at the colour of the crabs and start from there.  (For this reason PNB&J is the biggest seller in by far in RSA and Zim). 
Secondly the colour selections available from specialist suppliers like Picasso are so extensive that it literally covers every freshwater (and also a lot of saltwater) bait species anywhere in the world. (You can imitate about 80% of bait fish with a simple shad colour skirt) 
Note that you may need to look at your trailer a bit in order to "match the hatch" properly but  as far as actual jigs are concerned no purpose is served by trying to reinvent the wheel.
